Corporate Social Responsibility

Marcel de Gand Business & Travel Flats is committed to corporate social responsibility and adheres to the following principles:

• Making transparent agreements with customers and suppliers regarding the quality of our services and monitoring the quality we deliver.
• Determining the social impact of our company by collaborating with local merchants, social enterprises, and student workers from the neighborhood.
• Minimizing our negative social impact through a conscious purchasing policy regarding fraudulent practices, harassment, exploitation, and child labor.
• Minimizing our environmental impact without compromising the quality of our services. We do this as follows:
  • We replace standard daily maintenance with maintenance on request.
  • We only change bed and bath linens at the request of our guests.
  • We limit our waste and consistently sort it.
  • We offer local, organic, and fair trade products.
  • We inform our guests about alternatives to car travel, such as public transport and cycling.
  • We rent out electric bicycles, offer bus passes, and do everything possible to facilitate and encourage these alternatives.
  • We continuously work on reducing our company’s environmental impact.
  • We continue to improve our purchasing policy regarding goods and services with environmental and/or social labels.
• Marcel de Gand voluntarily contributes to social causes through membership fees, donations, or sponsorship of local associations and initiatives, such as Fairbnb.
• As a member of the Guild of Ghent Guest Rooms, Marcel de Gand aims to actively contribute to the development of the field. We do this by collaborating and exchanging information with fellow B&B owners.
• Marcel de Gand participates in initiatives to keep the environment clean. For instance, we signed the City of Ghent’s cleanliness charter, committing ourselves to helping keep our immediate surroundings clean.
